چکیده

Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) is very polyphagous pest, attacking more than 800 host plants. It causes serious damage to numerous vegetable and ornamental plants by feeding. Its economic importance even higher because it transmits 400 virus species. was found for the first time in Montenegro May 2008 on Hibiscus sp. area of city Podgorica. The detection vegetables September 2011 melon (Cucumis melo L.) an open field near Ulcinj. After fi rst vegetables, monitoring B. conducted next five years (2012-2016) localities southern part (Ulcinj, Bar, Budva, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Podgorica) where main production placed. Visual inspections were carried out several times during growing season from end June half October, different results five-year showed presence Ulcinj, Tivat No detected Novi. also established that population density varied depending plant locality. eight belonging two botanical families: melon, cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin watermelon (Cucurbitaceae), eggplant, tomato pepper (Solanaceae). as most preferable host, followed cucumber eggplant. complete development successfully completed cu cumber

Differential transcriptional activity of plant-pathogenic begomoviruses in their whitefly vector (Bemisia tabaci, Gennadius: Hemiptera Aleyrodidae).

Plant-pathogenic begomoviruses have a complex association with their whitefly vector and aspects concerning virus genetic activity (genome replication and gene transcription) within the insect remain highly controversial. Virus transcript abundance was assessed by quantifying selected gene transcripts of Tomato mottle virus (ToMoV, a New World bipartite begomovirus) and Tomato yellow leaf curl ...

Digestive, salivary, and reproductive organs of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) B type.

A microscopic analysis of the morphology and ultrastructure of the digestive, salivary, and reproductive systems of adult Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) B type was conducted using light, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy. The internal anatomy of B. tabaci was found to be similar to that reported for Trialeurodes vaporariorum. In a microscopic analysis of the sa...

Genetic diversity and geographic distribution of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) genotypes associated with cassava in East Africa

The genetic variability of whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) species, the vectors of cassava mosaic begomoviruses (CMBs) in cassava growing areas of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, was investigated through comparison of partial sequences of the mitochondria cytochrome oxidase I (mtCOI) DNA in 2010/11. Two distinct species were obtained including sub-Saharan Africa 1 (SSA1), comprising of two sub-clades (I...

Genome-Wide Characterization and Expression Profiling of Sugar Transporter Family in the Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

Sugar transporters (STs) play pivotal roles in the growth, development, and stress responses of phloem-sucking insects, such as the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci. In this study, 137 sugar transporters (STs) were identified based on analysis of the genome and transcriptome of B. tabaci MEAM1. B. tabaci MEAM1 encodes a larger number of STs than other selected insects. Phylogenetic and molecular evolut...

Protecting Unrooted Cuttings From Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera Aleyrodidae) During Propagation

In North America, the sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Genn., is an important pest of greenhouse poinsettia. Growers have limited options to control this pest during propagation of cuttings, which are rooted under mist for several weeks. Early establishment of this pest increases the difficulty of managing the whitefly and retaining high aesthetic standard during the remaining crop producti...
